First Official Club Run Out - A Word From the Route MasterThe route has been posted - more Well this being the first organised run out for the Cannock Area the pressure was on me as the nominated route master to ensure the route was of interest and the right kind of roads with not to many Sunday drivers. Clearly the pressure was on to produce the goods I wanted to ensure that all had a good run out and more importantly people wanted to come back. With this in mind I decided to use my local knowledge of the local B roads of On arriving at the Spread Eagle I was surprised how many cars had turned out for the Gooders Gumball Rally, lots of familiar faces and some new. It was decided that we had better have a brief drivers meeting before we hit the road this was generally on the lines of “right lads follow me” and the maps were handed out. The route took the 11 Gooders Gumballers out though my home village of Shifnal, then on though the Ironbridge gorge to the village of Much Wenlock, here we then picked up the 19 mile section of B roads over Wenlock edge to the Shropshire town of Ludlow. The choice of this road was for its fast twisty sections unfortunately we encountered a group of lads on classic motorbikes out for a Sunday morning cruise which slowed proceedings down a little as they seemed to think they owned the road and made it difficult to pass safely, the good news was they decided to take another route. Ludlow was the half way re-group and refuelling point for a now famous Mr Carpet Stu who is an expert at running out of petrol on any club run, he then paid a precautionary visit to the pumps just top up his tank “just to make sure” (see pictures below), not wishing to be left out Mr Fent had mechanical issues with his newly rebuilt pinto accelerator cable which was quickly sorted. After a chat and chocolate we were back on the road heading for Bridgenorth and then on to the Spread Eagle and finish 90ish miles of fun and I hope enjoyment by all. Rich (The Route Master Gooders)
